Message from Outgoing CMCFA President, Jean-Marc Noël

8 July 2020 • CMCFA Executive Committee

The CMCFA Executive Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Helen Luu of the Department of English, Culture and Communication as President of the CMCFA and the appointment of Dr. Barbara Falk of Canadian Forces College Toronto as Chair of the Bargaining Committee. Both of these appointments result from the appointment of our outgoing President, Dr. Jean-Marc Noël of the Department of Physics and Space Science to the position of Dean of Graduate Studies at RMC in Kingston. In accordance with our Constitution, both Dr. Luu and Dr. Falk have been appointed until the end of Dr. Noël’s original term of office in 2022.

It goes without saying that Jean-Marc’s departure marks the end of an era, since he has been with the CMCFA Executive since 2004, serving as Member-at-Large, member of the Collective Bargaining Committee, Grievance Officer and finally assuming the presidency and the chair of the Collective Bargaining Committee in 2010. He has been involved in four rounds of bargaining leading to collective agreements in 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2018. We are happy to provide Jean-Marc this opportunity to send you a farewell message.

As you all know by now, I have been named the Dean of Graduate Studies effective 6 July 2020. Resigning my position as President of the CMCFA to take on this assignment was not an easy decision for me to make. However, I believe that the time is right to embark on a new chapter of my career.

I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to represent your interests not only at the local level but also at the National level for over 10 years. I believe that the experience that I gained combined with the training opportunities that the CMCFA provided me has positioned me well for the next chapter in my life. It has been my privilege and honour to represent all of you. I will be forever grateful for your trust and the confidence that you showed in me even when the skies looked rather bleak at times.

I am fully confident the Executive of the CMCFA are well prepared and ready to take on any new challenges that may arise. They have simply been an amazing team and I cannot praise them enough. I really appreciate having had the opportunity to work with a great and professional group of people.

Before I end this short note to you, I would like you to know that I am fully confident in Helen’s abilities; she will do an amazing job representing you as your President. I also want you to know that Barbara also has my full confidence as your new Chair of the Bargaining Committee. They will both ensure that your interests are well represented at the local and national levels.

I look forward to working collaboratively with you and supporting new initiatives in our pursuit of the betterment of the Military Colleges.

Gratefully yours, Jean-Marc

Stay tuned for an announcement regarding our upcoming Annual General Meeting, which will take place in the fall.
